Phases of the Moon

For this assignment, students will learn the phases of the moon. Please take an evening or a few evenings to observe the phases of the moon. Ask your child what phase we are in and ask them to explain what it is. Second grade students will learn the differences between Full Moon, New Moon, First Quarter Half Moon, and Three Quarter Half Moon.



This assignment fulfills the Second Grade, Science Standard Two in the Utah Core Curriculum. Students will gain an understanding of Physical Science through the study of the forces of motion and the properties of materials.

This also fulfills Ed Tech Standard Standard 8 Use technology resources (e.g., calculators, data collection probes, videos, educational software) for problem-solving, self-directed learning, and extended learning activities.
